To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all members,
we kindly ask you to obey our policies and guidelines
while inside the YMCA facilities. Please respect all
rules and regulations set by each branch. Failure to
do so will result in a termination of membership.PART I Listed below are rules set forth by the adminstrative offices. In PART II you will find Health and Fitness Guidelines

Accidents and Injuries
The majority of YMCA staff members are CPR and First
Aid certified. Any accidents or injuries should be reported
immediately to a Y staff person.
Alcohol
Anyone suspected of using alcohol or drugs will not
be permitted in the facility and will be
asked to leave.
Animals
Animals are not permitted in YMCA facilities, except
for Seeing Eye Dogs.
Attire
Workout clothes (athletic shorts, t-shirts, sweats or
leotards) and appropriate footwear are recommended in
most facility areas. Street shoes are not allowed on
wood floors or in pool areas. Proper swimming suits
are required. Open-toe sandals and belts with buckles are forbidden on fitness equipment.
Child Supervision
Children 10 years and younger must be under direct adult
supervision when using the facility or participating
in a supervised program activity. For their safety,
children are not permitted in certain area of the facilities.
Please respect guidelines set by each branch concerning
children.
Equipment
Fitness equipment is cleaned regularly; if in disrepair,
please notify the staff immediately.
Facility Usage Restrictions
Use of select areas of facilities may be restricted
to certain age groups and supervisory requirements.
Some hours of operation and areas of the building may
be closed to members during Y special events. Members
can generally use other areas of the YMCA or another
facility at such times.
Food and Beverage
Food and beverages with the exception of water bottles
are not permitted in workout areas. Some refreshments
are provided by the YMCA. Vending machines are located on the second floor and on lower level.
Gymnasium Guidelines
Apply the rules of good sportsmanship at all times.
Anyone who abuses the YMCA court or property, or plays
in a reckless and dangerous manner will be asked to leave and may lose membership
privileges. Always follow specific open gym hours. Schedules

Holidays and Days Closed
The Y will be closed on the following holidays:
- New Years Day
- Easter
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- During annual maintenance in late August, parts of facility may be closed for cleaning. Notices will be posted.
The YMCA has the right to close facilities and cancel
classes due to special events, inclement weather, and
other Y-related programs and events.
Member Communications
This is your YMCA. Make your concerns, questions or
comments known! Messages can be sent via email, Member
Comment forms, or please feel free to speak directly
with any member of our staff.
Publications
Information can be found
in a number of ways.
- Program Guide Supplement, published 5 times a year and mailed two weeks prior to program registration, to members
- ENews, a monthly electronic newsletter emailed to members that register for classes on line or who have subscribed for the newsletter through this website (Summit Area YMCA home page)
- Press Releases and articles appear in local news media including newspapers: Summit Observer, Independent Press , The Item of Millburn/Short Hills; Monthly News Magazines: Summit Collection, Vacinity Magazine, Women's Journal, Kids Guide, Family of Union/Essex, and Parent Guide.
- Community Cable Television: Local TV36. The Y Triangle, a new monthly televised show will airs on TV36 and can be viewed in all of the Y's service area.
