Our son, Bernie, has been attending the Y’s child care for four years. He currently attends both before and after school care and he enjoys it very much. Just the other day I asked him if he would like to go to another camp (instead of the Y) and he started to cry—he told me how much he liked it there. They really make him feel like he’s a part of the Y family—as soon as he walks in the door, every person says, “Hi, Bernie.” The staff is all fabulous, especially Jen (Currao, the Child Care Director).
For me, the Y is simply great child care for working parents. They have a very flexible and dedicated staff. They also work hard to meet our individual needs when necessary—when we had a specific busing need, they made sure to make accommodations for Bernie.

I am a single parent and the Y has helped me tremendously. I needed an after school and holiday program that I could trust and I needed to feel that my son, Neil, would be safe and well cared for. I got all of that at the Y. I have the peace of mind and security that I’ve never had before.
Better still, Neil enjoys going to the Y. He appreciates all the activities and options that are available. We both especially like that he gets to make his own choices—when you’re 8, that can really give you a sense of empowerment that I find healthy. When he’s there for vacations, they do special things and make it fun and different. Terri Clinton (Springfield’s Child Care Director) has really made all the difference and does an outstanding job.
Lastly, I receive financial assistance from the Y to help pay for Neil’s child care and they have never made me feel ashamed or embarrassed of my situation. I don’t have to jump through hoops or bend over backwards—I simply give them the financial forms and it’s done; they do the rest. They have made a potentially difficult or embarrassing situation no big deal.

The thing I like most about the Y’s child care (my son, Alex, goes to the after school program) is the fact that he has fun things to do after school while I’m at work. He likes to be able to climb the rock wall, take swimming or roller hockey classes and he enjoys being there with lots of other kids.
The staff is friendly and takes good care of Alex. I feel good about him staying active and that he’s in a safe and happy environment. I also like the structure of the program and the fact that it is very reliable.
